MEET THE FOSTERS

HoiZen Bnb is lovingly owned by Shelby and Mike Foster, along with their two daughters, Tessa and Molly. In 2005, Leamington-born Shelby left the area to attend university, travel and experience the world outside of Southwestern Ontario. It was during her adventures that she met Mike. They were married in 2009 and settled in Cambridge, Ontario.
By 2017, Shelby and Mike were the parents of two daughters, struggling to balance work, life and parenthood, while maintaining a strong marriage and looking towards the future. Shelby in particular was starting to feel the family was disconnected from each other and the life they had envisioned. It was then that Shelby began imagining how she could bring her family back together while also utilizing her greatest gift: inspiring joy in others.
Ultimately, revelation came to Shelby through her beloved Oma and Opa. After her Opa’s death in the spring of 2018, she was flooded with memories of the joyful times she spent at their bed and breakfast as a child — Oma lovingly welcoming guests into her home, creating a space of peace and comfort for each person she served. These memories brought with them a moment of brilliant clarity. She too wanted to provide these experiences for her girls, and was happily overwhelmed with a vision of the family’s own Bnb.
It took about six months of internal work for Shelby to truly understand this vision, and realize that the universe was in alignment with her desire to share her gifts with the world. Around Christmas time in 2018, while visiting family in Leamington, she and Mike drove past 90 Seacliff Dr. W. and saw the “For Sale” sign. Shelby could hardly catch her breath.
Within a week, they were walking through the front door for a showing. The moment they stepped inside, they knew there was no turning back. The house was ready for them, and they were ready for it. Even Mike, who wasn’t sold on the idea of running a bed and breakfast, was grinning from ear-to-ear as he envisioned his girls growing up inside such a warm and loving space.
It was like the universe took over from there. In a blink of an eye, their offer had been accepted and plans were set in motion for the grand opening of HoriZen Bnb in the Spring of 2019.

So much has happened since those early days in 2019, including a global pandemic that devastated the tourism industry. But what remains the same is Shelby and Mike’s commitment to creating a space where people feel a sense of safety, connection and belonging. 

HoriZen Bnb isn’t just a hotel in Leamington — it’s an expression of gratitude, cultivated from the purest desire to serve others and share the gift of joy with everyone who passes through the doors.
